Cylinder switches & magnetic switches

Magnetic switches, which primarily include the cylinder switches indispensable in automation technology, are non-contact limit switches based on reed contacts or fully electronic (contactless) sensors (Hall, AMR and GMR sensor elements).

Actuation is achieved by a permanent or electromagnet. Under the influence of the magnetic field, the paddles of the reed switch are magnetized and open or close when a sufficient magnetic force is present. Different switching distances are achieved depending on the sensitivity of the reed switch (AW value) and the field strength of the magnet. Fully electronic magnetic switches measure the change in the magnetic field (Hall effect, magnetoresistive bridge) and convert this into a digital signal.

Overview on cylinder switches

Magnetic switch with trigger magnet apart

magnetic switch With external actuating magnet only react to the magnetic field generated by the separate permanent magnet. A typical application in which these switches are used is, for example, the speed measurement on motors or rotating machine parts.
Dietz magnetic switches are available in cylindrical design with or without metric screw thread or as a cuboid. They can be used flexibly by means of actuating magnets of different designs and field strengths.

Cylinder switch for pneumatic cylinder

Dietz cylinder switches reliably detect the piston position on pneumatic cylinders. Thus, movement sequences on pneumatically operated systems can be safely monitored and controlled.
The sensors are operated by permanent magnets attached to the cylinder piston, which are recognized by the housing of the cylinders (aluminium, brass or stainless steel). The sensors are attached directly to the cylinder housing.
Numerous different versions and designs guarantee the use on all standard cylinders from leading manufacturers. Reed or electronic switches for T-slot, C-slot, round cylinder, dovetail and profile rod cylinder are available. The most common is the use of sensors on T-Nut cylinders.
Various mounting accessories also allow the use of T-slot switches on round or profile rod cylinders. Dietz cylinder sensors are available as 2- or 3-wire, DC or AC versions.
