Measuring and switching light curtains

An optoelectronic light curtain is used for object detection, distinguishing between different shapes, or for measurement purposes. Each system operates on the principle of one-way light barriers and consists of a transmitter and a receiver unit. Depending on the model, numerous transmitting diodes emit infrared or laser light, thereby forming a tightly meshed light curtain.

Accident protection light curtains

Accident protection light curtains are non-contact protective devices (BWS) with self-testing and serve to protect people from serious injuries to machines and machines. They represent an effective and economical alternative to conventional mechanical protective measures on systems, machines or other danger zones. The devices form a close-meshed protective field of infrared rays in order to secure access to the danger area. The secured area is determined by the protective field range x protective field height. The interruption of one or more beam paths triggers the safe shutdown command. In this way, the personnel is safely and effectively protected from dangers without impeding the work processes. Occupational safety is the responsibility of the employer and is therefore fundamentally a matter for the boss!

Before selecting the light curtain, the hazard potential, taking into account legal guidelines (e.g. Machinery Directive 98/37 EC) and the standard types BWS – A,B+C and the situation on site, must be determined in detail. This risk assessment results, among other things, the required device category (2 or 4) and the necessary resolution (finger or hand protection). The range of the protective field reaches up to 18 meters, depending on the version. Different profile cross-sections of the opto bars are available.
